Presentation

The Technical Certification in Sustainable Tourism forms technical personnel who guide development processes, guaranteeing adherence to the principles of economic, social, and environmental sustainability. It strengthens knowledge and the ability to provide effective services to companies in Latin America.

The certification is comprised of four technical modules. It is 75% virtual and 25% in-person in Costa Rica, where there are visits to different tourist sites and projects in conjunction with talks by experts, entrepreneurs, and public officials linked to sustainable tourism in the country, which is an essential part of the appeal of this certificate.

Who is it aimed at?

The certificate is aimed at agents of change in the public and private sectors who are linked to tourism and the management of natural resources. Because of its practical focus, it is ideal for those people who are immersed in the planning, development, and implementation of projects and/or the evaluation of them. Additionally, teaching and/or training professionals can use it as an ideal means to update knowledge and discover new tools and best practices that have stood the test of time.

Requisites

Each module (course) may be taken independently, without having to register for the certificate. CATIE and CANAECO will issue a separate participation certificate for each module. Nevertheless, to opt for the Technical Certificate in Sustainable Tourism, you must: 1) actively participate during the four modules, 2) turn in an experience report (implementation in the field) for at least two of the four modules, 3) pass at least three of the evaluation tests that take place at the end of each module, with a minimum grade of 65 points, and 4) complete the in-person part in Costa Rica.
